KTVK Arizona Channel 3Poolcare 101 Morning Show - Tuesday, June 5, 2002
The only pool care TV show, featuring pool expert Judd Smith.

Welcome TV 3 Viewers. Thanks for visiting our site.

By now, you are well on your way to a perfectly maintained pool.

Today we introduced you to pool cleaners. There are 3 types available.

Pressure-Type Cleaners
These are the in-floor pop-up systems that use water pressure to operate a hydro-mechanical actuator. The actuator alternates water pressure to a series of water piping circuits that force water into pop-up heads in the pool floor. These heads are designed to blast water pressure along the floor and blow dirt and debris to the main drain in the pool floor, which is then sent to the pump and filter. Some installations require an additional boost pump to deliver the water pressure. Benefits: No hoses required in the pool. Comes on automatically. Disadvantages: Relatively expensive to install in a new pool. Highly mechanical system requiring regular maintenance. Additional boost pump and electrical expenses (some installations).

Automatic Vacuum-Type Cleaners
The vacuum-type cleaner uses the suction from the main pump to operate a vacuum that sucks debris and dirt off the pool floor. The debris is then sent to the pump and filter. Benefits: Comes on automatically. Relatively inexpensive. Can be installed in an existing pool. No boost pump required for operation. Disadvantages: Hose required in the pool for operation. Mechanical system requires periodic maintenance.

Manual Vacuum System

This is the pioneer of pool cleaning systems. It consists of a pole, hose and vacuum head. You connect the hose to the skimmer and manually vacuum the pool by hand. Benefits: Quick cleaning time compared to automatic systems. Very inexpensive. Disadvantages: Not automatic.

We recommend that you have a cleaning system in your pool to keep it clean and help minimize the staining effects of dirt and leaves.
